Context and use
Total score = male sex (2) + previous attack (2) + onset within 1 day (0.5) + joint redness (1) + first MTP involvement (2.5) + hypertension/CVD (1.5) + serum urate above threshold (3.5).
Serum urate scores only when >5.88 mg/dL, >350 µmol/L, or >0.35 mmol/L. <=4.0: gout unlikely; 4.5-7.5: intermediate probability; >=8.0: gout likely.
