Context and use
APGAR total = appearance + pulse + grimace + activity + respiration
Each domain contributes 0, 1, or 2 points; the result is the raw 0-10 total.
The 0-3, 4-6, and 7-10 ranges apply specifically to the 5-minute assessment in term and late-preterm infants.
