Context and use

ATRIA score = age/prior-stroke branch points + female_sex + diabetes_mellitus + congestive_heart_failure + hypertension + proteinuria + renal_impairment, where renal_impairment = 1 if eGFR <45 mL/min/1.73 m² or end-stage renal disease, else 0. Age/prior-stroke branch points: if prior_stroke = false, age <65 => 0, age 65-74 => 3, age 75-84 => 5, age ≥85 => 6; if prior_stroke = true, age <65 => 8, age 65-74 => 7, age 75-84 => 7, age ≥85 => 9. Each non-age binary factor contributes 1 point when present and 0 when absent.
